Simbus Operating Principles

SIMBUS LTD (HEREINAFTER “SIMBUS”, “WE”, OR “US”) INVITES YOU TO READ OUR OPERATING PRINCIPLES.
Simbus does business according to its Operating Principles (sometimes called a “Code of Conduct”). These Operating Principles are based on the codes of ethics from the IEEE, the UK’s Engineering Council and Royal Academy of Engineering, and Engineers without Borders (UK).
1. HONESTY AND INTEGRITY.
We shall uphold the highest standards of professional conduct including openness, fairness, honesty and integrity. Specifically, we shall:
act in a reliable and trustworthy manner;
be aware of how our work and behavior may affect others;
respect the privacy, rights and reputations of other parties and individuals;
respect confidentiality;
declare conflicts of interest internally and with our customers;
avoid deception and take steps to prevent or report corrupt practices or professional misconduct;
reject bribery and improper influence.
2. RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT FOR SAFETY, LAW, THE ENVIRONMENT, AND THE PUBLIC GOOD.
We shall obey all applicable laws and regulations and give due weight to facts, to published standards and guidance, and to the wider public interest. Specifically, we shall:
always act with care;
consider all the impacts of our engineering at a local and planetary scale, from a project or product’s inception to the end of its life;
hold paramount the health and safety of others and draw attention to hazards;
ensure our work is lawful and justified;
recognize the importance of physical security, cybersecurity, and data protection;
respect and protect personal information and intellectual property;
strive to protect and to improve the quality of built environments and to protect, restore, and regenerate natural environments and ecological systems;
strive to maximize the public good and to minimize both actual and potential adverse effects for the current generation and succeeding generations;
take due account of the limited availability of natural resources and how the extraction and use of these resource may effect ecosystems;
uphold the reputation and standing of the engineering profession.
3. RIGOR AND ACCURACY.
As engineering professionals, we have a duty to acquire and use wisely the understanding, knowledge, and skills needed to perform our role. Specifically, we shall:
perform work only in areas in which we are currently competent, or under competent supervision, or after full disclosure of pertinent limitations;
keep our knowledge and skills up to date;
assist in the development of engineering knowledge and skills in others;
present and review theory, evidence, and interpretation honestly, accurately, objectively, and without bias, while respecting reasoned alternative views;
seek, accept, and offer honest criticism of technical work, to acknowledge and correct errors, to be honest and realistic in stating claims or estimates based on available data, and to credit properly the contributions of others;
identify, evaluate, quantify, mitigate, and manage risks;
not knowingly mislead or allow others to be misled.
4. LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNICATION.
We shall promote high standards of leadership and communication. Specifically, we shall:
strive to improve the understanding by individuals and society of the capabilities, societal implications, and environmental implications of the adoption and use of technology;
ensure that the aspirations, concerns, viewpoints, and knowledge of others are respected and included in our processes;
promote equality, diversity and inclusion;
treat all persons fairly and with respect, and to not engage in discrimination, harassment, or bullying behavior of any kind;
avoid injuring others, their property, reputation, or employment by false or malicious actions, rumors, or any other verbal or physical abuses;
promote public awareness and understanding of the impact and benefits of engineering achievements;
be objective and wholly truthful in any statement made in our professional capacity;
challenge statements or policies that cause us professional concern.
5. SIMBUS DIRECTORS AND SIMBUS EMPLOYEES.
All Simbus directors and Simbus employees (including Simbus permanent employees and Simbus temporary employees) shall:
abide by the Operating Principles;
seek advice on how to proceed if they are at all unsure whether something complies with the Operating Principles or how to apply its associated guidance;
raise (confidentially if they wish), without fear of unfavorable consequences for themselves, any concerns they have that the Operating Principles or its associated guidance is not being followed.
6. SIMBUS BUSINESS PARTNERS.
Our Business Partners shall be willing to adopt the Operating Principles or have equivalent standards and procedures in their own businesses.
